The final of the Berlin Prize for Young Artists 2024 (BPFYA) took place on Friday in Berlin’s Villa Elisabeth, with accordionist Marcell Csuka and violinist Qingzhu Weng taking home first and second prize respectively.
Six finalists were selected from 250 applicants, with Csuka and Weng being joined in the final by Orlando Bass (piano), Aina Font (saxophone), Juliette Journaux (piano) and Rebecca Minten (clarinets). All six finalists performed a 30-minute solo program, in music stretching from Biber and Bach through Stockhausen and Sciarrino to Sarah Nemtsov and Rebecca Saunders.
